To save you time in organizing your trip, I have prepared a selection of the best hotels to sleep in Mauritius.

Whether you want to stay in one hotel for the entire stay or move from place to place, you’ll find everything you need in this guide.

Where to Stay in the North of Mauritius?

The north coast of Mauritius is one of the liveliest and most touristic regions of the island.

The North is a very good choice of place to stay in Mauritius, whether for the whole duration of your stay or for just a few days.

By choosing accommodation in the North of Mauritius you will be close to the most beautiful beaches of the island such as:

  • Trou aux Biches beach
  • Mont Choisy beach
  • Peyrebere beach
  • Cap Malheureux beach

Staying in a hotel on the north coast of Mauritius also means being close to Grand Baie, where the majority of shops, clubs and trendy restaurants are concentrated .

The North is also the ideal region to practice nautical activities in Mauritius such as:

  • scuba diving
  • Le snorkeling
  • Everything that is pedalo, sea kayak, paddle …
  • And boat cruises, including the famous catamaran excursion to the northern islets, which I recommend!

The beaches of the north coast of Mauritius are dotted with luxurious hotels, each more sumptuous than the next, but you will also find small, more accessible “boutique-hotels” and welcoming bed and breakfasts .

Here is my selection of the best accommodations in the North of Mauritius:

  • Bano Beach Residence : comfortable apartments for rent in the center of Grand Bay facing the beach. Sea view and fully equipped kitchen. From €25 per night. Ideal for an economical stay in Grand Bay!
  • La Tonnelle Guest House : warm guest house in Trou-aux-Biches, 3min walk from the beach. Each bedroom has its private bathroom. Access to the beautiful outdoor swimming pool. From €45/night for a single room, breakfast included.
  • Azur Beach Boutique Hotel : small, inexpensive and comfortable hotel 2 steps from the beach of Grand Baie, on Sunset Boulevard. From €60 per night for a single room (breakfast included). Direct ocean view. Ideal location, perfect comfort and affordable price!
  • Sakoa Boutik Hotel : charming hotel in a heavenly setting on the seafront in Trou-aux-Biches, 15 minutes by car from Grand Baie. Private beach, swimming pool and Spa on the beach. Caring staff. Double room around 200€ per night. My favorite hotel in the North of Mauritius!
  • Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort : one of the most prestigious hotels in the North, located 5 minutes from downtown Grand Baie. Direct access to the beach. You can enjoy the Spa, the swimming pool and the 3 restaurants. Double room from 250€. The perfect accommodation for a luxury stay in the north of Mauritius!

Where to Stay in the West of Mauritius?

The west coast is the other essential seaside resort of Mauritius (along with the north).

The most touristy area is around Flic-en-Flac, known for its very large white sand beach, its trendy restaurants and its nightclubs.

The western region of Mauritius is renowned for its beaches but also for its exceptional natural sites, including the Black River Gorges National Park, Chamarel and the Tamarin Falls.

Staying in the West of Mauritius is therefore the ideal choice to both enjoy the beaches:

  • Flic-en-Flac beach, vast and lively
  • La Preneuse beach, a small family beach with the air of paradise
  • Wolmar beach, where to see the most beautiful sunsets on the island!

  • Sugar Beach A Sun Resort : one of the finest hotels on the West Coast. Luxurious establishment directly overlooking the beach of Flic-en-Flac. You will stay in an independent, comfortable and super well-equipped villa with a view of the sea, from 390€/night. The best for a luxury stay in Flic-en-Flac!

Where to Stay in the East of Mauritius?

The East Coast is the perfect place to stay in Mauritius if you are looking for peace and quiet.

Wilder and more unspoiled than the north and west, the east is considered by many to be the most beautiful region of the island.

And it is true that with its turquoise lagoon, its lagoons and its immense white sand beaches , it has something to seduce.

Among the emblematic places of the east coast of Mauritius, you have surely already heard of Bellemare or Ile aux Cerfs which are the best known.

By staying in the East of Mauritius you will therefore have plenty of time to enjoy dream beaches such as:

  • from Bellemare
  • of Trou d’Eau Douce
  • from Poste Lafayette
  • from Palmar

You can also go on a cruise to Ile aux Cerfs to discover the grandiose landscapes of this small paradise island.

If you like nautical activities, you will also be served. You will be able to test:

  • EvaZion : experience comfort surrounded by nature in this hotel located in Grande-Rivière-Sud-Est, 20 minutes from Bellemare beach. Double room from 80€/night. The establishment also includes a swimming pool, a restaurant, free access kayaks and shuttles to reach Ile aux Cerfs.
  • Otentic Eco Tent Experience : the concept of the Otentic is a return to basics and communion with nature, without skimping on comfort. You will stay in an ultra-comfortable luxury safari tent from €130 per night for 2 to 5 people. The staff is super friendly and there are also plenty of activities to do on site (swimming pool, kayak, shuttle to Ile aux Cerfs…). Special mention for the delicious cuisine of the restaurant (fresh and local products!). My favorite place to sleep in the East of Mauritius!
  • Veranda Palmar Beach Hotel: charming little top-of-the-range hotel facing the lagoon of Bellemare. Spacious double room with balcony from €175/night, with meals included in the price. We also appreciate the direct access to the beach, the outdoor swimming pool and the Spa.
  • Constance Bellemare : 5-star hotel, one of the most beautiful and prestigious establishments on the east coast of Mauritius, located on Bellemare beach. It includes 6 restaurants, several swimming pools and tropical gardens. Spacious double room with marble bathroom from €255/night, including breakfast.
  • Le Touessrok : hotel at the height of luxury opposite the lagoon of Trou d’Eau Douce and 5 minutes by boat from Ile aux Cerfs. Double room with balcony and sea view for 450€/night, breakfast included. The hotel also includes several swimming pools, restaurants, a wellness center and even a small private island! The must for a luxury stay in the East of Mauritius.

Where to Stay in the South of Mauritius?

The South of Mauritius, which stretches from Le Morne to Mahébourg, is a particularly well -preserved region.

People come here to experience the authenticity of Mauritius, discover its wild landscapes and picturesque villages.

The South is the ideal region to sleep in Mauritius to discover this region in depth over several days.

The most beautiful hotels in the South of Mauritius are located near Le Morne, Chamarel and Mahébourg.

Where to Stay in Mahébourg (South-East)

Mahébourg is the former capital of the country and the emblematic city of the South-East of Mauritius. It is built facing the largest lagoon on the island and surrounded by heavenly beaches like those of Blue Bay and Pointe d’Esny.

In the vicinity of Mahébourg you can also:

  • go see the Eau Bleue waterfall , which flows into a pool of turquoise water
  • visit Ile aux Aigrettes and its protected fauna and flora
  • explore the Vallée de Ferney, a beautiful green nature reserve for hiking.

  • Ferney Nature Lodge :  stay in a superb comfortable eco-lodge surrounded by nature in the heart of the Ferney valley. Each suite includes a double bed, a bathroom and a terrace. As a bonus, you will enjoy an extraordinary view of the valley from the restaurant terrace. Plan a budget of around €295/night. My favorite around Mahébourg!

Where to Stay in Chamarel (South-West)

The mountainous and forested region of Chamarel is one of the most beautiful natural corners of Mauritius.

This is why there are a lot of hotels and bed and breakfasts there .

In Chamarel, there is no shortage of things to visit:

  • The Earth of the 7 Colors, a unique geological curiosity in the world!
  • Chamarel waterfall, the highest waterfall on the island
  • The Ebony Forest Reserve, which is full of endemic protected species
  • La Rhumerie de Chamarel, where the prestigious Mauritian rum is made

  • Surf House : shared apartment, with tropical garden and view of the Morne Brabant mountain, located in the village of La Gaulette, 2km from Chamarel. Each resident has a comfortable bedroom, in addition to the common kitchen and a large terrace. Double room from €25 per night (optional breakfast at €5). Ideal for an economical stay in the South West of Mauritius!
  • Tam Studio : fully equipped studio for rent for 4 people maximum, located 3km from the Earth of the 7 Colors of Chamarel. Very clean, warm welcome and catering service on site. Nice terrace where to have breakfast in the sun. From €45/night.
  • La Vieille Cheminée : a haven of peace surrounded by nature with a sumptuous panorama of the mountains and the forest. You will sleep in a cozy cottage, well equipped and tastefully decorated in the heights of Chamarel. Count around 190€ per night for 2 people. My favorite in the South West of Mauritius!

  • Hotel Chalets Chamarel : charming hotel located on the mountain ridge of Chamarel in a very quiet environment, with breathtaking views of Le Morne. Sleep in a comfortable and spacious independent chalet located on the edge of the forest. You can dine in the restaurant facing the infinity pool. From 300€ per night. The best choice for a rejuvenating stay in Chamarel!

This emblematic mountain of Mauritius, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site , is a cultural and natural highlight of the island.
