Then really start this 3-week Quebec Itinerary by leaving Montreal to reach Mont-Tremblant.

Count about 1h30 by car between the 2.

Mont-Tremblant is renowned in Canada as one of the places where the fall colors are the most beautiful.

Having had the chance to go there at that time, I can assure you that it is really worth the detour! The trees take on warm tones ranging from yellow to fiery red and are reflected in the lake. It is simply splendid.

Moreover, know that if you want to take a little height to enjoy it even more, helicopter flights are offered above Mont-Tremblant.

And if you visit Mont-Tremblant more in winter or summer, don’t worry, between hiking, water activities, a  4 km zip line or skiing, you’ll have plenty to keep you busy.

Day 4-5: La Mauricie National Park

For this third leg of your three-week itinerary in Quebec, I recommend that you go explore La Mauricie National Park for 2 days.

The trip will take you all morning from Mont-Tremblant, approximately 3 hours drive.

In the afternoon, relax and stretch your legs by taking a walk to admire the beautiful natural landscapes.

In summer, you will have the possibility of canoeing on one of the lakes or a more advanced hikeIn winter, put on your skis or snowshoes for the sporty version, or opt for a dog sled or snowmobile ride.

A panoply of activities typical of a circuit in Canada!

The next day, I suggest you make the most famous excursion in the park, that of the Waber Falls. The arrival at the falls is a bit worth it, you will first have to canoe 4 km then walk another 4 km before arriving there (and the same thing on the way back!). Plan the day and pack a picnic.

Accommodation in La Mauricie National Park

For camping enthusiasts, the park offers large tents fitted out both in winter (wood stove) and in summer. Common premises are available for preparing food and washing. You can find more information on this site.

Day 6: Lac St-Jean

We continue this 3-week trip to Quebec with another stop: Lac St-Jean.

Here too, the 3h45 journey will take you well in the morning but you will not see the time pass by contemplating the beautiful landscapes.

For the schedule of the afternoon, everything depends on your desires and your centers of interest.

If you are spending your holidays in Quebec with your family, I advise you to visit the St-Félicien zoo. During the journey in the small mesh train, it is you who will be “in a cage” and the animals in total freedom. This is the best way to observe the zoo’s bison, moose, bears or wolves. If you have kids, you can’t go wrong with this choice!

For the schedules and prices of the zoo, it is on the official site.

Do you prefer history and want to discover that of the Aboriginal nations of Quebec? Then go to the Amerindian Museum which is located in Mashteuiatsh, by the lake.

The information is also on the official website.

Third option: the historic village of Val-Jabert, an authentic reconstruction of a Quebec village from the 1920s with its shops and historic buildings.

More details on the official website.

Spend the night in one of the hotels that I recommend below, on the shores of the lake.

Accommodation at Lac St-jean

Day 7-8: Saguenay Fjord

Today, we continue this three-week circuit in Quebec by going to the Fjord du Saguenay, about a 2-hour drive from Lac St-Jean.

Also on this side, you will not be disappointed by the magnificent landscapes. To fully enjoy the activities of the Fjord, I recommend that you stay there for 2 days.

Organize your program so as not to miss:

  • The village of Anse St-Jean which can claim to be one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec. The only village in the South of the Fjord to be located on the edge, it allows you to contemplate a beautiful panorama.
  • The village of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord whose position in a valley surrounded by mountains is also very pretty.

During these 2 days, it would also be a shame not to take the opportunity to do at least one hike. The most famous for its viewpoints is that of the Sentier de la Statue (about 7 km round trip).

The Fjord can also be admired from the water. For that, choose a boat cruise or a sea kayak trip. If you are lucky, you may be able to spot whales or belugas.

For a more winter program, you will also have the opportunity to occupy yourself with:

  • Ice fishing to catch your fish from a hole dug in the ice
  • A snowshoe outing
  • Nordic skiing.

Accommodation in the Saguenay Fjord

  • Escale au presbytère B&B : The establishment is located in Petit-Saguenay, very close to the Fjord. Pleasant and spacious double room from €60 per night, breakfast included. Most: the setting and the calm, the delicious breakfast, the comfortable bedding, the impeccable cleanliness. It is our favorite for its price / performance ratio, I really recommend that you stay there for 2 nights.

  • Le 30 de Vébron : Apartment located in the pretty village of Anse St-Jean. This 250m² apartment can accommodate up to 7 people for €160 per night. It is well equipped, very beautiful, and located in a pleasant setting. It is ideal if you are traveling with family or for a group of friends.

Day 9: Tadoussac

For the sixth stage of this 3-week in Quebec, I suggest you live a unique experience! Today you have a date with the whales!

Departures for cruises are from Tadoussac, which is a 2-hour drive from the Saguenay Fjord. Considered one of the 50 most beautiful bays in the world, it is also a famous place to go whale watching.

There are several options for your cruise depending on the duration or type of boats you want. In any case, it is better to book your sea trip in advance because it is the most touristic activity in the region.

For a trip on a big boat, tickets can be booked directly by clicking here. This cruise, which lasts about 3 hours, also allows you to take a tour of the Fjord (which can be nice if you haven’t had time to do it the previous 2 days!).

Another possibility: a zodiac excursion! This lasts 2h30 and also includes the passage through the Fjord. Not insignificant advantages: you will be in a small group and you will be able to approach the whales as closely as possible.

Book your ticket in advance right here.

Spend the night in Tadoussac.

Day 10-12: Gaspésie National Park

Continue your three-week road trip in Quebec through another national park: that of Gaspésie.

From Tadoussac, head north to the village of Les Escoumins, about 30 minutes by car. From there, you will need to take the ferry to Trois-Pistoles, on the other side of the St. Lawrence. Count around $22 per person for a 90-minute crossing.

You will find timetables and fares for the Les Escoumins – Trois Pistoles ferry on this site. It is better to book in advance.

Once disembarked, it will take you another good 3 hours to reach the national park. But since ferry departures are usually quite early in the morning, you should arrive at the park by mid-afternoon.

We come here mainly for hiking and this is the program that I suggest you follow for the afternoon and the next 2 days. Whether you are with family or friends, more or less athletic, you will find trails adapted to your level.

Between 2 hikes, you can also go canoeing or try your hand at fishing. In winter, it is possible to practice cross-country skiing or even ice climbing!

On the park’s official website, you will find avery well done map of the trails showing you the place of departure, the length and the average duration of the route as well as the degree of difficulty. Do not hesitate to consult it to prepare your visit.

Day 13-14: Pierced

For this stage of your 3-week itinerary in Quebec, I suggest you reach the easternmost point of Gaspésie: Percé.

But before you get there, be sure to stop at Forillon National Park. To get there from Parc de la Gaspésie, take route 132, which is ranked among the most beautiful scenic roads in Quebec. Everywhere the landscapes are magnificent!

You will take about 2h40 by car and count a little more with the photo stops.

The park is famous for its steep cliffs shaped by erosion. I advise you to go through Cap-des-Rosiers and reach Cap-Bon-Ami to contemplate them. From there, you can hike to Grande-Cave and cover part of the tip of the cap on foot.

At the end of the afternoon, take Route 132 back to Percé (1h10 journey).

Percé is known for its Percé Rock, an emblem of Quebec and Gaspésie, which you can see from many places in the village. And most of the hotels that I suggest also offer a direct view of it.

Spend the night in Percé.

The next day, I recommend that you stay in Percé to have time to visit Bonaventure Island, which is home to a large colony of northern gannets. The best way to observe them is to opt for a cruise.

It is also possible to make a stopover on the island for a walk. 4 different trails (with a total length of 15 km) allow you to go around it and get as close as possible to the gannets.

Spend a second night in Percé.

Regarding the next day’s stage, I also recommend that you stop in the vicinity of Carleton-sur-Mer for the night (hence my selection of hotels).

The Baie des Chaleurs was named for its  microclimate  which makes it a popular seaside region for its long beaches. During the afternoon, you can enjoy the resort of Carleton, the beach and water activities.

Several hiking trails also provide access to belvederes offering a panorama of the entire bay. The most beautiful viewpoints are at the top of Mont Saint-Joseph and Mont Carleton.

Day 18-20: Quebec

Impossible to visit Quebec in 3 weeks without going through the city of the same name. Quebec City deserves a few days!

From Bic National Park, the trip will take you about 3 hours to reach Quebec. As the city is located on the other side of the St. Lawrence River, you will need to take the ferry from Levis to reach Québec.

The crossing is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a splendid view of all of Quebec and get a first impression of the city.

In the afternoon, stroll along the pretty cobbled streets lined with shops in the Petit-Champlain district to Place Royale and the Fresque des Québecois. Then go back to the upper part of the city (on foot or by funicular) to pass by the Notre-Dame cathedral basilica and join the Promenade de la Terrasse Dufferin.

The opportunity to admire the emblematic hotel of Quebec: the Château Frontenac. You can book a guided tour of the interior of the castle by clicking here, but maybe you will even have the chance to spend the night there?

Spend a night in Quebec.

The next day, continuation of this 20-21 day stay in Quebec with another walk in the city:

  • Discovery of the Citadel of Quebec
  • Walk in the Plains of Abraham
  • Visit of the Parliament Building
  • Climb to the observatory of the capital

In the afternoon, I advise you to take your car back to see Montmorency Falls, just 15 minutes away. Higher than Niagara Falls, it offers an impressive sight, whether in summer or in winter when it is partially frozen.

Don’t forget to book in advance your ticket for the cable car that leads to the top of the falls if you want to avoid waiting in line.

Spend another night in Quebec.

Quebec - 3 weeks Quebec itinerary

And for the third day in Quebec, I suggest you go explore the surroundings.

For example, you can go to Île d’Orléans, north of Quebec, in just 15 minutes by car. Take a tour of the island and discover the Quebec countryside and authentic rural villages.

And if you are doing this 3-week road trip in Quebec with your children, another option is to take them to spend the day at Village Vacances Valcartier. In winter, it is the largest amusement center in North America.

Your children and yourself can enjoy the 35 snow slidesskating trails and go snow rafting. There’s also a large indoor water park with wave pools and water slides.

In summer, the huge outdoor aquatic area awaits you with swimming pools, slides, buoys…

If you choose this option, you can take the opportunity to sleep at the Valcartier hotel, rather than returning to Quebec for the last night.

Depending on your interests, there are also plenty of great activities you can try around Quebec:

  • A snowmobile ride!  This is the Tips: favorite for a winter outing!
  • A dog sled excursion  to Lake St Joseph, 50 km from Quebec
  • Go watch the black bears
  • A quad outing in the heart of nature
  • A snowshoe hike  in Jacques-Cartier National Park with round-trip transportation included from Quebec
  • A hike with a guide  (also in Jacques-Cartier National Park – transport included)
  • A trip down the St. Lawrence River by ice canoe
  • A sea kayak excursion  to Île d’Orléans
  • A fat bike ride  (a bike specially equipped with large snow tires)

Day 21: Return to Montreal

You have arrived at the last leg of your 3-week car tour in Quebec, and unfortunately that means the return to Montreal.

From Quebec, a 3-hour drive separates you from Montreal. Depending on the time of your flight or if you leave the next day, you can finish discovering a little Montreal.
