To visit Greece in 14-15 days, I recommend landing in Athens.

The capital can be visited on foot but you will need to rent a car for the rest of this 2-week circuit in Greece. You can therefore choose to rent it now to avoid having to come back to pick it up later at the airport, or, if you prefer to save 2 days of rentalpick it up at the next stage.

Then reach your hotel in Athens, either by car (for those who have rented it directly) or:

  • By taxi : €40
  • By bus: line X95 to reach the central square of Athens, Syntagma Square

Day 3: Mycenae / Epidaurus / Nafplio

A 14-day Greece itinerary would not be complete without discovering part of the Peloponnese. So that’s what I suggest you do for the next 3 steps.

Here are the 3 places I advise you to visit during the day:

  • The Corinth Canal, 1 hour from Athens. Dug into the rock to save boats a detour of almost 400 km, it is particularly impressive because it is very narrow! To do for the photo stop or even a bungee jump!
  • Mycenae, 40 minutes from the canal. Former home of King Agamemnon, it is one of the oldest sites in Greece. To see if you like old stones because there is not much left of the royal palace or the tombs. Otherwise, go directly to the next site.
  • Epidaurus, 45 minutes by car from Mycenae. The place is considered one of the major sites of the Peloponnese for its ancient theater, whose acoustics are exceptional. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For the last stage of the day, reach Nafplion, 30 minutes from Epidaurus. You can stroll through the old town, drive up to the fortress of Acronauplia to admire the view of the city, and finish at Arvanitia beach with a swim.

Spend a night in Nafplio.

Accommodation in Nafplio

  • Agamemnon Hotel: Located in the old town of Nafplion, opposite the Bourdzi fortress. Double room, some with a balcony overlooking the sea from €55, breakfast included. Most: the location, the view, the warm welcome.
  • Amymone and Adiandi Hotel: Located 5 minutes from the beach, in the old town. Elegant and tastefully decorated double room from €75, breakfast included. Most: the delicious breakfast, the location on a pedestrian street, the original and nice decor. It is our favorite for its performance / price ratio in Nafplion!

Day 4: Fortress of Palamidi / Monemvasia

Today, continuation of this two-week Greece itinerary, still in the Peloponnese.

For the early morning finish the tour of Nafplion by driving up to the Palamidi fortress. Very large and well appointed, it offers views of the sea and the city. Allow 2 hours for the visit.

Then join Monemvasia. The village is a 3-hour drive from Nafplion and has the particularity of being built on the sides of cliffs on an island and is totally invisible from the outside. Surrounded by a city wall, it served as a fortress for the inhabitants of the region during invasions and wars.

A stroll through the cobbled streets lined with shops and restaurants will take you to the church and the cathedral. From there, you can also take the path that climbs up the mountain to the fortress. The view is splendid.

At the end of the day, take the road back to Mistra (1h30). This is the most convenient for the next day’s program.

Tips for your Greece itinerary:
To visit Monemvasia, park your car in the car park after the dyke and take the shuttle (€1) to reach the entrance to the village.

Accommodation in Mistra

  • Byzantion Hotel : Located next to the main square of Mistra. Comfortable room with a view of the archaeological site from €55, breakfast included. Most: the swimming pool, the view, the private car park.

Day 5: Mistra / Olympia

For the fourth stage of this 15-16 day stay in Greece, start the day by discovering the site of Mistra (or Mystras).

The site is divided into 2 parts, an upper part and a lower part, at the entrance of which there is a car park. You can therefore choose to start at the top, visit, then take your car and discover the other part. Keep your entrance ticket between the 2, you will be asked for it.

Former capital of the Byzantine Empire, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mistra is made up of several churches, monasteries and convent as well as a fortress.

Very well restored, it is for me one of the most beautiful places to see in the Peloponnese, during this 2 week Greece itinerary. Count about 3 hours of visit.

Then go back by car to reach another mythical site, Olympia (2 hours drive).

By visiting Mistra early in the morning, you can be there by 3/4pm and therefore have time to visit the museum and the archaeological site (in that order).

In the museum you will see objects and statues found in Olympia. The visit allows to represent a little better the archaeological site.

The entrance to Olympia is not far from the museum. Between the year 776 and the year 393 BC, the place hosted the Olympic Games. Here you will see the foundations of the gymnasium, temples and sports facilities.

If you have a little time left at the end of the day, stop by the historical museum of the Olympic Games which details the history and the tests practiced during the games. Admission is included in the entrance ticket to Olympia and the museum (12€).

Spend the night in Olympia.

Accommodation in Olympia

  • Leonidaion Guesthouse: Located 10 minutes walk from the site of Olympia. Spacious and comfortable double room from €55 per night, breakfast included. Most: free private parking, walking access to the site, location in a street above the main so quiet. It is our favorite for its performance / price ratio in Olympia!

Day 6: Delphi

To continue this two-week itinerary in Greece, I suggest you leave the Peloponnese and join Delphi.

3h15 of road separates you from Delphi but you will not see the time spent because the road is rather nice.

Arrived in Delphi, start by visiting the archaeological site, which is located at the exit of the city. In the middle of the mountains, it is there that the pythia delivered the famous oracles of Delphi, which greatly influenced the history of Greece. The Greeks considered the city to be the center of the world.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the place allows you to take a walk to discover the Temple of Apollo, the theater and the stadium.

Admission at €12 also includes a visit to the museum, located next door.

Tips for your Greece itinerary:
For the meal I recommend  the Taverna Vakhos The menu is a little different and more upscale than the other restaurants, for the same price. We ate well and it was plentiful. However, it is better to book.

Accommodation in Delphi

  • Fedriades Delphi Hotel: Located 10 minutes walk from the ancient site of Delphi. Modern and warm double room with balcony from €55, breakfast at €8. Most: the panoramic view, the quality of the bedding, the warm welcome.
  • Kastalia Boutique Hotel: Located just 5 minutes from the city of Delphi. Spacious and modern double room from €62, breakfast included. Most: the terrace for breakfast, the excellent welcome, the location. It is our favorite for its price / performance ratio in Delphi.

Day 7: Meteora

And we continue this 14 day Greece itinerary, with the big favorite of my vacation, Meteora. Located in the center of Greece, the site is quite far from Athens and Thessaloniki, but I guarantee it is worth the trip!

From Delphi, leave early in the morning to make the 3 hour drive that separates you from Meteora. Stop in the town of Kalambaka for lunch and take the opportunity to ask for the map of the monasteries at the tourist office.

You can then go and visit Meteora, these monasteries built on top of high rocks. By following the road, you will be able to see the 6 monasteries whose interior can be visited for 3€. The most impressive is the Great Meteor Monastery, perched 610 meters high!

The setting is splendid and the place truly extraordinary.

Spend a night in Meteora.

Accommodation in Meteora

  • Pyrgos Adrachti: Located in the village of Kastraki, 5 minutes drive from the monasteries. Double room with a view of Meteora from €60, breakfast €7.50. Most: the magnificent view, the calm, the hearty breakfast.
  • Meteora Hotel at Kastraki: Located in Kastraki. Modern and bright double room from €80 per night, breakfast included. Most: the swimming pool, the location in the countryside, the spectacular view. It is our favorite for its performance / price ratio in Meteora.
  • Hotel Meteoritis: Located in Kastraki. Spacious and comfortable double room with bacon overlooking Meteora, from 125€, breakfast included. Most: the location, the pleasant staff, the private parking, the varied and hearty breakfast.

Day 8: Thessaloniki

For stage 7, I suggest you join Thessaloniki.

It is certainly not the most interesting stage of this two-week circuit in Greece, but it is from Thessaloniki that you can take your plane to reach Santorini.

From Meteora, it takes around 2h40. Depending on the flight time for Santorini, you can take the opportunity to visit Thessaloniki a little before.

Then head to the airport to drop off your rental car and board.

Tips for your Greece itinerary:

Flying from Thessaloniki to Santorini is the fastest way. Flights do n’t necessarily cost more than from Athens, nor a ferry ride (which will take you longer!).

When booking a car, as you will pick it up in Athens and leave it in Thessaloniki, choose a company that does not charge drop-off fees at another airport.

Day 9-11: Santorini

You have arrived at the eighth stage of your 2-week stay in Greece. For the rest of your vacation, I suggest you visit the Cyclades Islands, starting with the most famous: Santorini!

After arriving by plane from Thessaloniki, collect your rental car and travel to your accommodation in Santorini.

Here is the program that I suggest you follow to visit the whole island in 3 days.

On the second day, opt for one of the most popular activities, a boat trip to discover the still active volcano of Néa Kaméni and bathe in the hot springs and for the luxury and romantic version on a catamaran

  • Discover the other villages:  Pyrgos, Megalohori and Emporio.
  • Visit the archaeological sites of Akrotiri (often compared to Pompeii, Italy ) and Ancient Thira.
  • Wine lovers can also book a small-group wine tour of Santorini’s estates with tasting included. Book here!
  • End of the day cool on one of the beaches. The Red Beach or the Black Beach are the best known. Monolithos beach is more family friendly.

Spend one last night in Santorini.

Day 12-14: Another island of the Cyclades

On this 15-day Greece vacation, you will also have time to visit another Cyclades island, in addition to Santorini.

There are of course several alternatives, I have selected 3 of them among the most easily accessible Greek islands by ferry from Santorini.

It’s up to you to choose the one that appeals to you the most according to your tastes:

  • Amorgos for hiking
  • Naxos for beach relaxation
  • Paros for a walk / beaches / typical villages mix.

In any case, to organize your ferry crossing, consult the schedules and book your ticket. And also don’t forget to book a rental car to drive around the selected island.

Option 1: Amorgos (3 days)

Amorgos is 1 hour by ferry from Santorini.

In the list of things to see in Amorgos for this first day, I advise you to go around the island by car:

To visit Amorgos, I advise you to sleep in one of the 2 main towns: Katapola or Aegiali. I recommend you choose between the 2 depending on your departure port when you leave Amorgos.

You will have the choice between a half day or a full day with swimming stops. Between 40 to 100€ depending on your choice and the type of boat.

This will then be the end of your stay in Greece!

To visit Paros in 3 days, you will find additional information in our article: What to do in Paros?

Accommodation in Paros

In Paros, accommodation is mainly concentrated around Parikia (convenient because this is where the ferries arrive and depart) or Naoussa, the island’s main seaside resort.

I have therefore prepared a selection of the best accommodation for you to sleep in Paros according to these 2 cities.

The best hotels in Parikia
  • Margarita: Located 300 meters from the Basilica of Parikia and 400 meters from the beach. Double room with balcony from €37. Most: the kindness and the advice of the managers, the warm atmosphere.
  • Nostos Studios Apartment: Located 1 minute walk from the beach and 1 km from the port. Studio that can accommodate up to people and with a view of the sea from 70€. Most: the roof terrace to admire the sunset, the family hotel, the warm welcome.
  • Sunset View Hotel : Located less than 10 minutes walk from the port. Comfortable room with balcony overlooking the sea from €80, breakfast included. Most: the swimming pool, the free shuttle from or to the port, the free private car park. It is our favorite for its price / performance ratio in Paros.
  • Akrotiri Hotel: Located 2 km from the port of Parikia. Clean and comfortable double room with sea view from €100 per night, breakfast included. Most: the swimming pool, the view, the good breakfast, the caring staff.
The best hotels in Naoussa
  • Surfing Beach Village Paros: Located directly on the beach of Santa Maria, 5 minutes drive from Naoussa. Very nice bungalow in the Cycladic style from 30€ per night, breakfast included. The pluses: the swimming pool, the free transfer to the port, the setting, the free deckchairs on the beach.

  • Paliomylos Spa Hotel: Located 800 meters from Naoussa. Spacious and bright double room from €110 per night, breakfast included. The pluses: the swimming pool, the Spa and the massages, the decor, the full and varied breakfast.

Day 15: Return to Athens or Santorini

Several choices are possible to organize your return from Amorgos, Naxos or Paros:

  • Return by ferry to Santorini and fly directly home. Depending on the time of your return flight, you can leave the evening before.
  • Take a ferry to Athens and then go to the airport. Here too, it is better to leave the Cyclades at the end of the day to be sure not to miss your flight.
  • From Naxos or Paros you can fly to Athens (only 40 minutes!) and from there take another flight back home.

Tips for your Greece itinerary:

For a 14-day Greece itinerary, remove a day on one of the islands.

For a 16-day Greece itinerary, you can add a day in Athens to take a cruise to the Saronic Islands, for example, or add a day in Santorini or another Greek island.

Do not hesitate to give us your opinion and suggestions on our 14-15-16 day itinerary in Greece!
