Where to stay in Bastia, North of Corsica

If you want to visit Northern Corsica, there is a good chance that you will arrive in Bastia. It is the best served city in terms of planes and ferries.

You will therefore certainly spend at least one night there when you arrive or leave.

During a short walk in Bastia, you can discover:

• Place Saint-Nicolas where the tourist office is located and many bars/restaurants with terrace
• Rue Napoléon, a pedestrian street lined with shops and where there are also 2 oratories
• The Saint Jean-Baptiste church, built in the 17th century, is the largest church in Corsica
• The citadel of Bastia which houses the history museum.

• Hotel Restaurant & Spa L’Ostella: Located 4 km from the center and 500 meters from the beach. Warm and comfortable double room, some with a balcony with sea view, from €90 per night, breakfast at €12.50. Most: the caring staff, the excellent restaurant, the wellness center with indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi.
• Alivi: Located 350 meters from the beach and 2 km from the center of Bastia. Double room with terrace overlooking the sea from €135, breakfast at €16. Most: the pool, the setting, the view, the restaurant. This is our recommendation for an upscale stay in Bastia!
• Hôtel Des Gouverneurs: located in the citadel, 2 minutes walk from the Old Port. Elegant and cozy double room from €180, breakfast at €19. Most: the view of Bastia and the sea, the geographical location, the availability of staff, the indoor swimming pool. This is our recommendation for luxury accommodation to stay in Bastia!

Where to stay in Cap Corse

Cap Corse is to the north of Bastia .

It is an excellent choice where to stay in Corsica if you want to discover the wilder and less touristy side of the island.

What makes it special are its tiny typical and picturesque villages such as Erbalunga, Centuri, Nonza and its black pebble beach, or even Patrimonio, which is home to many wine estates.

Hiking enthusiasts will not be left out by taking the coastal footpath which runs along a good part of Cap Corse (19 km in all) from Macinaggio to Centuri.

If you don’t want to walk so much, I recommend doing only the best known part: Macinaggio to Barcaggio in 3h30 and stopping for a swim break at one of the beaches.

Stay at Cap Corse

To visit Cap Corse, I recommend that you stay near Macinaggio, which will allow you to hike the coastal path.

Here is my selection of hotels to stay in Macinaggio:

• Marina D’oro: Located on the port of Macinaggio, 100 meters from the beach. Double room with sober decoration from €70, breakfast at €7.50. Most: terrace with Jacuzzi, location near restaurants and shops. Perfect for inexpensive accommodation to stay in Corsica!
• Adonis Macinaggio: Located opposite the port. Studio and apartment with kitchenette and balcony overlooking the garden or the sea from €75. Most: refurbished accommodation, cleanliness, free private parking.
• Stella Marina: Located 100 meters from the port. Renovated, modern and bright double room with a large terrace, from €78, breakfast at €9.50. Most: the swimming pool, the calm, the private car park, the warm welcome. It is our favorite for its performance / price ratio in Macinaggio!
• Hotel U Ricordu: Located 150 meters from the port. Modern and welcoming double room from €80, breakfast at €14. The pluses: the 2 heated outdoor swimming pools, the jacuzzi, the comfort of the bedding, the calm.
• Le Tomino: Located on the heights of Macinaggio. Very comfortable and spacious suite with private terrace and sea view from €345, breakfast €19. Most: the infinity pool, the exceptional view of the bay, the restaurant, the calm and relaxing environment. This is our recommendation for a luxury stay in Cap Corse!

Where to stay in Saint-Florent (Northern Corsica)

Planning to spend a night in Saint-Florent during your stay in Corsica is super practical to be able to discover the Agriates desert.

The Agriates desert is known for hosting 2 of the most beautiful beaches in Haute-Corse : Saleccia beach and Lotu beach. You will be able to enjoy a day of relaxation and idleness on magnificent white sand beaches with turquoise water.

Here is my selection of the best accommodation in Saint-Florent

• Adonis Saint-Florent: Located 600 meters from the center of Saint-Florent. Air-conditioned studios and apartments with kitchenette and balcony from €70, breakfast at €9.50. Most: the swimming pool, the cleanliness, the price/performance ratio. This is the best choice for an economical stay in Saint-Florent!
• Hotel Tettola: Located 1.5 km from the port of Saint-Florent. Double room from 90€. Most: the swimming pool, the situation in front of the sea and access to the beach, the friendliness of the staff.
• U Palazzu Serenu: Very nice charming hotel located in Oletta, just 10 minutes by car from Saint-Florent. Overlooking the gulf and the Agriates desert, the hotel, a former 17th century palace, offers splendid, elegant and spacious rooms decorated with original works of art. Intimate setting guaranteed with only 6 rooms and 2 suites, which means you should book as soon as possible to be sure you can stay there! From €180 in low season and €340 in summer, breakfast included. Most: the large outdoor swimming pool, the magnificent view (and even more so at sunset), the warm welcome, the calm. This is one of the most beautiful hotels to stay in Corsica as a couple!

Where to stay in Calvi, in the North-West of Corsica

Calvi is for me one of the best choices where to stay in Corsica if you want to spend several days in the same place.

There are so many things to do and see around that you can easily stay 5 or 6 days in this corner of Haute-Corse without getting bored.

For a stay in Calvi, I recommend for example:

• A walk in the citadel, the old town and along the port
• A break on the immense sandy beach of Calvi, bordered by the pine forest
• A boat trip among the various sea trips offered: the Scandola reserve, the Revellata, or a fishing trip.
• A canyoning or rafting trip
• To take the small train (the trinichellu) which passes by all the beaches and allows you to go to Ile Rousse
• To discover the villages of Balagne: Calenzana, Montemaggiore, Speloncato, Pigna, Lumio
• To hike in the forest of Bonifatu or at the tip of Revellata
• Go swimming in the natural pools of the Fango Valley.

Here is my selection of the best hotels in Calvi

• Le Saint Erasme: Located 850 meters from the port on the seafront. Double room well equipped with good bedding from 70€ per night, breakfast at 10€. Most: the swimming pool, the free private parking, the welcoming staff.
• Camping La Pinède: Located just 200 meters from Calvi beach. Chalet and bungalow fully equipped, very functional and air-conditioned, with private terrace from 70€ per night. Most: swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, free parking. This is the ideal place to stay with the family in Northern Corsica!
• Hotel Revellata: Located 450 meters from the port. Design and comfortable double room from 85€ per night, breakfast at 12€. The pluses: outdoor and indoor swimming pool, the Spa, the gym, the view, the excellent breakfast. It is our favorite for its price/performance ratio in Calvi!
• Hotel Casa Bianca: Located 250 meters from the beach. Spacious and modern double room from €100, breakfast at €12. Most: the location, the welcoming staff, the comfort of the rooms.
• La Signoria: 5* hotel located 3 km from Calvi beach. Warm and spacious suite with dressing room, marble bathroom and terrace from €320 per night, breakfast included. The pluses: the gourmet restaurant, the Spa, the swimming pool, the calm, the exceptional breakfast. This is our recommendation for a luxury stay in Calvi!

Where to stay in Corte

If you plan a route in the North of Corsica, you will certainly pass by Corte. The city is located in the center of Haute-Corse, 1h15 by car from Bastia or 1h30 from Calvi.

Corte is the ideal place to stay in Corsica if you like hiking. There are plenty of wonderful hikes to do around, some of which are among the most famous on the island:

• Les Gorges de la Restonica to join Lake Melo and Lake Capitello.
• The Tavignano valley to combine walking and swimming in the river
• The ascent of Monte Cinto, the highest peak in Corsica which reaches an altitude of 2706 meters
• The Vizzavona forest and the trail to the English waterfall which is punctuated by lots of natural pools where you can swim
• Lake Nino, the second largest lake in Corsica is located at 1743 meters.

The best places to stay in Corte, in Northern Corsica

• Maison San Giovanni: Located 3 km from the center of Corte. Nice and clean double room from 60€ per night, breakfast included. Most: the great welcome, the good breakfast with fresh products, the calm. A good idea for cheap accommodation to stay in Corsica!
• U Passa Tempu: Located in the center of Corte, right next to the Sainte-Croix chapel. Well-equipped studios and apartments with kitchenette and quiet, from €90 per night. Most: location, calm, private parking, warm welcome.
• Hotel Si Mea: Located 15 minutes walk from the center. Spacious and warm double room from 120€ per night. Most: the swimming pool, the hearty breakfast based on local products, the pleasant environment.
• Casa di a Restonica: Located 1 km from the center. Comfortable and modern double room from €140, breakfast at €14. Most: the swimming pool, the comfort, the calm of the place.
• Hôtel Dominique Colonna: This 4* hotel is located 1 km from Corte, on the banks of the river. Very designer double room with refined decoration from €400, breakfast included. Most: the very beautiful swimming pool, the terrace at the water’s edge, the idyllic setting, the lovely staff. This is our recommendation for a luxury stay in Corte!

Where to stay in Ajaccio (South-West Corsica)

The best choice to start a circuit in South Corsica is to arrive in Ajaccio. It is the best served city in terms of planes and boats.

• Spending time at the beach: for my part, I really like the Terre Sacrée beach and its small coves with large rocks
• Go to the tip of Parata to contemplate the Sanguinaires Islands

• Discover the Capo di Feno and its 2 beautiful wild beaches.

The best hotels to stay in South Corsica, near Ajaccio

• Hotel Spunta Di Mare: Located 150 meters from the beach and 2 km from Place Foch. Colorful double room, some with a balcony overlooking the sea from €99, breakfast included. Most: the indoor swimming pool, the view of Ajaccio from the terrace, the proximity to the airport.
• Best Western Plus Ajaccio Amirauté: Located 350 meters from the beach and 1 km from the port. Modern and comfortable double room from €140, breakfast at €12. Most: the swimming pool, the warm welcome, the full and varied breakfast.

Where to stay in Corsica – Porto-Ota

You must plan to spend a night near Porto-Ota during your trip to Corsica.

Boat trips to the Scandola reserve and the creeks of Piana are organized from the port of this small town located between Ajaccio and Calvi . These 2 magnificent natural sites are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

For me, if there is only one boat trip to do in Corsica, it’s this one!

Accommodation in Porto-Ota

• Logis Hotel Le Lonca: Located 2 km from the port and 1 km from the beach. Clean and spacious double room from €100, breakfast at €11. Most: the swimming pool, the private car park, the breakfast on the terrace, the staff with good advice.
• Les Flots Bleus: Located on the seafront. Recently renovated double room with balcony overlooking the sea from €105 per night, breakfast €10. Most: the sublime view, the setting, the very warm welcome. It is our favorite for its price/performance ratio!

Where to stay in Corsica – Bonifacio

It is certainly the essential place to stay when visiting southern Corsica: Bonifacio.

With its houses built on the side of cliffs by the sea, Bonifacio represents the emblematic image of the island of beauty.

To see and do in Bonifacio:

• A walk in the citadel, the historic center of the city
• Visit the Bastion de l’Etendard to discover the history of Bonifacio and enjoy beautiful views from the ramparts
• Go down (and especially go up!) the staircase of the Roy d’Aragon
• A boat trip to discover the cliffs and sea caves
• The Campu Rumanilu trail walk from where all the most beautiful photos of Bonifacio are taken
• A day in the Lavezzi Islands to enjoy splendid little coves of fine sand and swim
• Relax on the magnificent beaches in the area: Petit Sperone beach, Paragan beach, Fazzio beach…

Where to stay in Bonifacio, in the south of Corsica

To stay in Bonifacio, you can either choose accommodation in the heart of the city (citadel/port) to be close to everything, or move away a bit if you prefer more calm.

Accommodation in the center of Bonifacio

Where to stay around Bonifacio

Where to stay in Porto-Vecchio, in the south of Corsica

If you want to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica, staying in Porto-Vecchio is an excellent choice!

You will be spoiled for choice where to put your towel:

• Rondinara beach, which owes its name to its arcuate shape
• The Palombaggia beach whose reputation is second to none! Umbrella pines, calm and translucent water, fine sand, the setting is truly heavenly!
• Tamaricciu beach, bordering Palombaggia, the atmosphere is more family-oriented
• Santa Giulia beach, another very famous beach near Porto-Vecchio
• San Ciprianu beach, perfect with children because it is located in a bay that is well sheltered from the wind and shallow
• Pinarellu beach, a long beach lined with pine trees and with shallow water
• Carataggio beach, much wilder than all the others.

The best hotels to stay in Porto-Vecchio – South Corsica

Where to stay in Zonza / Col de Bavella

Zonza is a small mountain village located north of Porto-Vecchio, at the foot of the Aiguilles de Bavella massif.

It is very practical to stay there for a night or two if you want to take advantage of the beautiful hikes to be done in the surroundings.

I particularly recommend the Piscia di Gallu (the largest Corsican waterfall) and the Trou de la Bombe at Col de Bavella.

If you lodge towards Bavella

There are not many hotels in this area, so try to get there as early as possible to make your reservation.

• Hotel Restaurant L’Aiglon: located in the village. Typical mountain hotel with double room with a slightly outdated decor but very clean, from €70 per night, breakfast at €8. most: very friendly hosts, very good restaurant with local products.

• Hotel Le Tourisme: located in Zonza. Modern and comfortable double room from €100 per night, breakfast included. Most: the swimming pool, the jacuzzi, the exceptional location and view, the excellent breakfast. Definitely one of the best places to stay in Zonza!

Where to stay near Solenzara, in the South-East of Corsica

Sari-Solenzara is a small seaside town located in the South East part of Corsica.

Its geographical position is perfect as a stopover town for one night to cut the journey a little if you want to travel between the South of Corsica and Corte in particular.

If lodging towards Solenzara

There are not a lot of accommodation choices in this part of the island, so remember to book in advance to make sure you have room.
