Los Austrias is the old Madrid, historical district of the Habsburg dynasty. Organized around the Plaza Mayor, one of the emblems of Madrid, it stretches from Puerta del Sol to Calle Mayor.

  • The Palacio Real, official residence of the King of Spain, and the Palace of Santa Cruz (headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
  • The Almudena Cathedral, the most important in the region and the first church in Spain to be consecrated by the Pope, and the Collegiate Church of San Isidro (which was the Cathedral of Madrid until 1993)
  • The Descalzas Reales Monastery, now a convent of nuns
  • The royal theater
