To visit Prague: what are the best things to do and see during a weekend?

Prague is a charming city full of history and architecture, and is an ideal destination for a weekend break at any time of the year.

When it comes to making a list of things to do in Prague, Czech Republic, you know that it will not be complete without a good amount of castles and churches, trendy bars and pubs with cheap beer.

Here is a guide to tell you exactly what the best things to do in Prague in 2 or 3 days.

1. The Old Town (Staré Město)

The Old Centers in any city in Europe are always interesting to discover.

In this one, one finds there many houses, churches and other works dating from the 13th century, ideal to take beautiful photos, or simply to admire one of the best architectures in the world.

There are some notable buildings such as the tower of the Town Hall and its astronomical clock , the Carolinum, the Municipal House and the State Theater.

2. The Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí)

In the center of Prague’s historic district, this lively square is surrounded by large, beautifully colored buildings (including the Astronomical Clock), cafes, street performers and artisans.

3. The Charles Bridge (Karlův most)

This bridge that connects Old Prague to the district of Malá Strana is full of musicians, painters, junk dealers and especially tourists.

The bridge refers to Charles IV who has not stopped beautifying the city.

As if that was not enough, the movie Mission Impossible 1, a scene of which was shot on the bridge, allowed to spread a little more this famous structure that spans the Vltava.

5. The Lobkowicz Palace

The Lobkowicz Palace is the oldest and most important collection of art in the Czech Republic.

There is more than 600 years of Czech and European history in the exhibition.

6. The Ossuary of Sedlec by Kutna Hora

The Ossuary of Sedlec is not in Prague, but the hour by car for Kutna Hora is worth it (route also feasible by bus or train).

In the 13th century, Jindřich, the abbot of the Sedlec Monastery, scattered on the floor of the cemetery surrounding the Chapel of All Saints of the Earth from the Holy Land in Palestine.

This “mix” caused the success of the cemetery and it was soon overpopulated.

There are tons of objects related to the activities of the Soviet secret services to see, for people interested in this era.

Other pretty cool museums are worth visiting in Prague: the Kampa-Sovovy Mlyny Museum, the Czech Music Museum, the Sternberk Palace and the Alfons Mucha Museum.

One of the largest complexes of buildings in Europe, the Clementinum was built between the mid-sixteenth century and mid-eighteenth century for the Jesuit brothers.

During his visit, you will discover the astronomical tower from which, since 1775, meteorological surveys take place, the Meridian Room and finally the magnificent Baroque library, decorated with frescoes and home to precious terrestrial globes.
