2 Weeks in Thailand: Ultimate 2-Week Itinerary

The Best 2-Week Thailand Itinerary

Do you want to visit Thailand for 2 weeks?

Excellent idea!

To help you organize your stay, I have prepared a 2-week itinerary for you in Southern Thailand. You will visit the most beautiful islands and places of unmissable interest that have made the reputation of the country.

A small note: If you rather prefer to mix Bangkok, Northern Thailand, and the South, I advise you to read my other recommended itinerary in this article: What to do in 14 days in Thailand.

In this itinerary from Phuket, follow my program to discover Koh LantaKrabiKoh Yao Noi and the splendid southern beaches.

For each stage of your trip, I’ll also give you my selection of the best hotels to stay and all my advice and ideas for excursions to spend a dream vacation.

So, what to do and see in Thailand in 2 weeks?

Day 1-4: Phuket

For this 2-week Thailand itinerary, I suggest you start by discovering Phuket.

It’s also super convenient because the island has an international airport, so you can get there directly. Feel free to compare flight prices to Phuket in the reserved section at the end of this article.

From the airport, you can take a taxi, bus or  private transfer (click here for information) to reach your hotel. I advise you to choose a hotel near one of these 2 areas:

For this first day in Phuket, I suggest you simply put your towel on Patong beach, a 2 km long fine sand beach.

You can sunbatheswim or if you feel like a bit of action, opt for a towed buoy or parasailing ride.

At the end of the afternoon, take a walk on Bangla Road, still in Patong. The busiest street on the island includes many shops, bars and restaurants.

It is also in this street that you can attend the most famous show in Phuket, that of the Simon Cabaret featuring ladyboys (men who could easily be confused with women).

This attraction is very popular, so remember to book your tickets in advance, by clicking here.

If this show means nothing to you, I offer you another option: attend a muay thai boxing match, the national sport. Boosted atmosphere guaranteed! Here too, the fighting takes place in the Patong area.

But the Thais being fervent supporters, I recommend that you reserve your places in advance directly there.

Then get a good night’s rest to recover from the jet lag.

Patong

For your second day in Phuket, continue to explore the island at leisure.

You can for example focus on the East area, towards Phuket Town. If your hotel is in Patong, just take the bus or rent a scooter for the day.

If you prefer, there is also an organized excursion with minibus transport  to see some of the must-sees that I recommend.

You will find the description and all the information to book this tour here.

In Phuket Town, I advise you to go to the old town and walk along Thalang Road and its surroundings.

You will be able to admire the colorful Sino-Portuguese style buildings and houses that make the place so charming. There are also quite a few local craft shops and cafes.

Also not to be missed in the neighborhood:

Then head to Monkey Hill, a hill home to entire colonies of not very shy monkeys. They won’t hesitate to approach you if you have something to feed them. You can get peanuts and bananas from many vendors in the area.

After feeding the monkeys, take the opportunity to climb to the top of the hill to admire the panorama.

And since I’m talking about the panorama, I recommend that you continue on your way by then joining another famous viewpoint of Phuket, that of Khao Rang Hill. Before getting there, stop at the temple of the same name to see the large golden Buddha statue.

And to end the day, head to one of Phuket’s beaches for a swim!

In the evening, I recommend that you go see the Siam Niramit showMore than a hundred actors and dancers stage several scenes representing the whole history of Thailand.

A beach in Phuket, Thailand itinerary

On the third day, I suggest you continue your 2-week Thailand itinerary with one of the most famous boat trips in the country, the one that takes you to discover Koh Phi Phi!

The island, and more particularly the beach of Maya Bay which is there, owes its popularity to the film which was shot there, “The beach” with Leonardo di Caprio. Since then, all tour operators offer this day trip from Phuket.

Unfortunately, the hundreds of boats dumping more than 5000 visitors per day, have damaged the marine ecosystem and the corals. Since 2018, it is therefore forbidden to land on the beach, you will just have to be content to admire it from the deck of the boat.

This day remains to be done absolutely during your 2 week Thailand itinerary because it also includes places as pretty as Maya Bay:

This type of excursion is really well organized: hotel pick-up, transport to the port, speedboat cruise , lunch includedmask and snorkel provided for snorkeling, and unlimited soft drinks. Everything is included in the price of about 112€ (about 4200 Bahts).

Just click here to book your boat trip to Koh Phi Phi from Phuket.

And for an even more special day, you can instead book a luxury Koh Phi Phi catamaran cruise. You have all the information by clicking here!

Koh Phi Phi

Today, for your fourth day in Phuket, I offer you different options:

1) Leave for a day trip by boat but this time in the archipelago of the Similan Islands.

I highly recommend it if you like snorkeling or diving, these islands are often ranked among the most beautiful diving spots in the world.

Here too, everything is organized from the departure in front of your hotel until your return in the evening to Phuket.

You will have the chance to enjoy 3 swimming/snorkeling stops, a picnic in an idyllic setting, climbing to the Sail Rock viewpoint and spending time on the splendid beach of Donald Duck Bay.

To book your Similan Islands excursion from Phuket here.

2) Spend a day at an elephant sanctuary to feed and wash them.

The living conditions of elephants in Thailand have always been quite deplorable, abused since they were small so that tourists could ride on their backs when they were older.

These sanctuaries and refuges were created with the aim of collecting injured, mistreated or too old animals in order to recreate the most natural environment possible. So you won’t be able to climb on them but help the healers to take care of them.

The number of visitors being limited each day, it is imperative to book this activity in Phuket in advance.

Go see the elephants in Phuket

3) Rent a scooter and discover the southern part of the island.

Places to see:

And if you want even more ideas of things to do in Phuket, I advise you to read my article: Visit Phuket: the ultimate guide.

Tips for your Thailand itinerary:

There are regular accidents in Thailand (during quad rides, parasailing, boat trips, etc.) because some agencies do not respect the necessary safety conditions and their equipment is not up to standard or too old.

To be sure to go through a serious agency, it is best to find out before or to book through the links that I offer you in this article. It’s not more expensive and you’ll be safe.

Accommodation in Phuket

If you want to be in the heart of the action, I have prepared a selection of accommodation for you near Patong:

If you prefer to stay in Phuket Town, here is my selection of hotels:

Day 5-7: Koh Lanta

Today, here you are at the next stage of this 2 weeks Thailand itinerary. I suggest you leave Phuket to join another island in the Andaman Sea: Koh Lanta.

To take the boat, go to the port of Rassada, a few kilometers east of Phuket Town. I advise you to ask your hotel to book the tickets for you 1-2 days before. They usually manage to negotiate better rates than if you book yourself online. The proof, we paid only 700 Bahts (port transfer included) instead of 1000 Bahts!

To go from Phuket to Koh Lanta, you will have to take 2 boats : the first takes you to Koh Phi Phi (2h30 crossing) and after a change, the second finishes the journey to Koh Lanta in 1h15.

The departure from Phuket is around 9am, which means that you will arrive in Koh Lanta around 1pm.

If you prefer to go faster and directly to Koh Lanta, it is also possible to make the trip by speedboat but there are not a lot of places. For this transfer it is better to book well in advance. You have the information by clicking here!

To reach your hotel in Koh Lantatransfers are offered during the boat trip. You can take it, the prices are the same as arriving on Koh Lanta. They just vary depending on the location of the hotel.

In the afternoon, you can choose to relax on one of the beaches near your accommodation or rent a scooter to discover the west coast of the island where the most beautiful beaches are located . Going down to the south, you will see that there are fewer and fewer people.

For the details of the beaches to see in Koh Lanta, do not hesitate to consult my article: Visit Koh Lanta.

Spend a first night on Koh Lanta.

Go around Koh Lanta

For the second day in Koh Lanta, I recommend you to do the excursion of the 4 islands (“four islands” in English). It is for me a must of a stay in Koh Lanta and it was one of my favorite days of all my holidays in Thailand.

The islands to see are really super pretty and the places chosen for snorkeling are full of fish.

You will have the chance to discover:

The price of about 1000 Bahts includes: transfer to the port from your hotel, the day by boat with snorkeling equipment and lunch. You will also have at your disposal water and fruit.

I advise you to book this excursion here.

The outing that I recommend is offered on a traditional Thai boat, but you also have the option of booking this excursion by speedboat.

The reservation is made by clicking on this link!

Excursion 4 islands, Koh Lanta

The third day on Koh Lanta, I leave you the choice according to your desires:

1) Go on an excursion to the island of Koh Rok.

It is the second most popular boat tour after the 4 Islands. You can also swim and snorkel in one of the most famous corners of the country for its reefs and fish.

The only difference is that you will spend your day on a single island (1 hour by boat from Koh Lanta).

Everything is included in the price of about 1700 Bahts per person.

You can book this excursion directly here.

Koh Rok

2) Stay on Koh Lanta and choose between several activities:

All the details of these activities can be found in our article: What to do in Koh Lanta?

Spend one last night in Koh Lanta.

Tips for your Thailand itinerary:

If you find yourself near Klong Toab Beach at dinner time, I recommend eating at Sai Nat. This very small roadside restaurant with only a few tables offers delicious homemade and à la minute cuisine.

You will have the choice between several Thai and Indian dishes. The cheese naan are just killer!

Pimalai Resort & Spa Koh Lanta

Day 8-10: Krabi

For the third leg of this 2-week Thailand itinerary, direction Krabi, still in the Andaman Sea.

From Koh Lanta, you will need to take the ferry to reach Krabi. Count about 2h30 journey for 350 Bahts per person (with transfer from your hotel to the port included).

During the crossing, people pass by to offer you taxis and shuttles to reach Krabi Town, Railay or Ao Nang. The prices offered are high but you should be able to negotiate a little. Anyway, it’s as expensive as once arrived at the port of Krabi.

For the choice of your accommodation in Krabi, I advise you to stay in Ao Nang, the main seaside resort of the province.

You can thus spend your first afternoon in Krabi on Ao Nang beach or the slightly wilder one located not far from there: Noppharat Thara Beach.

Spend the night in Ao Nang.

Ao Nang, Thailand

Today, for your second day in Krabi, I recommend heading to the Railay Peninsula, which is only accessible by boat.

To get there, it’s very simple, you just have to go to Ao Nang beach and take a boat. Tickets can be bought in a hut on the beach. You don’t need to book in advance.

You will reach Railay in just 10 minutes for 200 Bahts per person round trip (don’t lose your return ticket during the day).

On Railay, the program is simple: enjoy the beach! The fine sand, the turquoise water, the heavenly setting, everything is there to spend a good relaxing day.

The 2 most beautiful beaches are those of Railay West Beach (where you arrive by boat) and Phra Nang Beach (15 min walk from West Beach). Between the 2, there are plenty of restaurants and bars.

If you feel like doing something other than sunbathing and swimming, you can also:

Railay West Beach

The next day, still as part of your 2 week Thailand itinerary, I suggest you go on a boat trip for the day.

Here too, the departure is from Ao Nang beach.

I recommend that you choose the excursion called “4 islands” (it has the same name as that of Koh Lanta but the islands to see are different). With that of Koh Phi Phi (but if you followed my advice you have already done it in Phuket), it is the most famous outing.

Here are the small islands on the program of the day:

And of course, swimming and snorkeling are planned to refresh you!

Koh Poda

On the fourth and final day in Krabi, you still have plenty to do!

Here are my different suggestions:

1) Visit Krabi town and its surroundings.

From Ao Nang, rent a scooter or take the song taew (shared taxi) to Krabi.

First go to the Tiger Temple (Wat Pham Suea), about 10 km from the city center. Built at the top of a hill, the temple allows (after having climbed 1237 steps all the same!) to admire the 360° view of Krabi.

On the site, a second staircase (much less steps!) also allows you to take a walk of about 30 minutes in the forest in the part called “Wonderland”.

Access to the temple is free but ladies, you will need to cover your legs and shoulders.

Then join the town of Krabi (Krabi Town) for a short walk to discover the main places of interest:

Krabi

2) A day at the emerald pool and hot springs.

If you haven’t rented a scooter, the best way to get there is to take an organized tour:

3) Hike to Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, 20 km north of Krabi.

4) Do the Tab Kak Hang Nak trail, 40 km from Krabi.

All my detailed explanations for these activities can be found in my article: What to do in Krabi?

Spend one last night in Ao Nang.

Emerald Pool, Krabi

Day 11-13: Koh Yao Noi

I now suggest that you end this 2-week Thailand itinerary, with a very small island that is much less touristy and known than its neighbors: Koh Yao Noi.

I don’t teach you anything if I tell you that once again, you will have to reach Koh Yao Noi by boat from Krabi. The journey takes only 30 minutes for 300 Bahts per person. Arrived at Koh Yao, taxis are waiting to take you to your hotel (100 Bahts per person).

For the planning of this first dayrent a scooter (300 Bahts) and go around the most beautiful beaches of the island, stopping to swim.

Spend the night in Koh Yao Noi.

The next day, I strongly recommend that you do the 4 islands excursion (yes it’s still the same name as Koh Lanta and Krabi, but the islands are different). This is one of the best outings we did during this 2 week Thailand itinerary!

You can discover and swim on the islands of:

To book this excursion, just ask your hotel. The price is 2500 Bahts for the boat, to be divided between the number of participants.

4 Islands Tour, Koh Yao Noi

For the last day in Koh Yao, I recommend a last boat trip. This time you can visit Phang Nga Bay and the most famous island in the area: James Bond Island.

Unlike other boat trips, this one does not offer a snorkeling stop but rather a tour of the islands and photographing splendid landscapes. You can also go kayaking in the caves.

In addition to the stop on James Bond Island, you will also discover the island of Koh Panyee and its large floating market with its lot of souvenir shops and restaurants.

The price is 4500 Bahts for the boat, always to be shared between the number of passengers.

If you are tired of boating, you can also stay on Koh Yao Noi and take the opportunity to walk, swim or kayak.

Spend one last night on Koh Yao Noi.

Information and details on Koh Yao Noi beaches, excursions and activities await you in my article: The Ultimate Guide to Visiting Koh Yao Noi.

Day 14: Return to Phuket

You have reached the end of your 2-week Southern Thailand itinerary!

From Koh Yao Noi, reach the port and board the speed boat for Phuket. Count 30 minutes of journey for 300 Bahts per person.

You will arrive in the northeast of Phuket, at the port of Rang Bang Pier. From there, you can take a taxi (700 Bahts) to Phuket airport for your return flight.
